Edward J. Wood Gave All to Cardston
Edward James Wood was born on October 27, 1866. E.J. lived a very active life-style in his youth and was part of many sports teams. In 1888, he was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served a three-year mission in Samoa. After he was married, he was asked to serve another three-years in Samoa, but this time as a mission president. On his arrival, schools were built, living abodes were cleaned out, crude, small meeting houses were built, water was boiled, and even gardens planted for the missionaries.
The Wood family moved to Cardston in 1901 where E.J. knew that this was to be their permanent home. He served many callings in the church, and was asked to preside over the Alberta Stake in August of 1903. He served as Stake President for 39 years. While serving as the Stake President, he was also called to be the Temple President in 1923 when the Temple was dedicated.
E.J. Wood was a very prominent member in the community and was always serving when there was a chance to help out. The E.J. Wood school was erected 0n this site in his honour.
